Road Trips: UK Campsites near beaches

Here are some fantastic UK camping sites with great amenities, but most importantly, are located near a beach. Most are family run with a strong environmental focus. 

1. Little Roadway Farm

  • Location: Woolacombe, North Devon
  • Beach: Woolacombe Beach (approx. 2 miles away)
  • Details: a small family friendly campsite that caters to couples and families only. Its possible to pitch beside the large play area. The onsite shop sells bread, meats and cheeses that have been produced in the local area. The award winning Wollacombe Beach, beloved by families and surfers alike, is a 5 minute drive away 

2. Pentewan Sands Holiday Park, Cornwall

  • Location: Pentewan, Cornwall
  • Beach: Pentewan Beach (direct access)
  • Details: A family-friendly site with direct access to a private sandy beach and excellent amenities. The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are a short journey from the park. The white sand beach is considered one of the most beautiful in the UK. The Campervantastic Crew usually opt to stay at more rustic campsites, but who can resist camping so close to a beautiful beach.

3. Deepdale Camping, Norfolk

  • Location: Burnham Deepdale, North Norfolk Coast
  • Beach: Burnham Overy Staithe (approx. 1 mile away)
  • Details: This award winning campsite is perfect for nature lovers, as the Norfolk Coast is a great place for wildlife, and bird watching. There is an onsite Visitor information centre, that provides bike hire, and information about local walks, including the Norfolk Coast Path. Facilities include a camp shop and a cafe. 

4. Hooks House Farm, North Yorkshire *

  • Location: Whitby, North Yorkshire
  • Beach: Robin Hoods Bay Beach (approx. 0.5 miles away)
  • Details: Situated between Whitby and Robins Hoods Bay, this park is a great place to explore north Yorkshire, as the local bus service runs past the entrance to the site. The nearest village is a 10 minute walk away and overlooks the bay. This isn't your typical bucket and spade type beach, but it is on the Dinosaur Coast, and very popular with fossil hunters. 

5. Sweet Hill Farm, Dorset *

  • Location: Portland, Dorset
  • Beach: Overlooking Portland Bill and a 15 min walk to the coast path
  • Details: This nearly wild camping site is located on a cliff offering unrestricted views of the sea and three lighthoouses, The site is also a riding school, so you can explore the island on horseback. There is usually food and music on Saturday nights during high season. 

6. Chalky Downs Campsite, East Sussex *

  • Location: Brighton, East Sussex
  • Beach: Rottingdean (10 minute drive)
  • Details: This campsite located on the South Downs has great great bus links to nearby Brighton. It's ideal for exploring Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs. You can get a breakfast bap made from locally reared produce, delivered to your ven every morning. 

7. The Hare and Hounds Campsite, East Sussex

  • Location: Rye, East Sussex
  • Beach: Camber Sands  (10 minutes drive)
  • Details: Located 2 miles outside Rye, this lovely campsite is a short drive to the magnificent sandy dunes of Camber Sands. Excellent facilities and just a 5 minute walk to nearest pub. 

8. Coast & Castle, Northumberland

  • Location: Alnwick, Northumberland
  • Beach: Boulmer Beach (approx. 1 mile away)
  • Details: One of the only UK campsites with full solar powered electric hookup. With a playground for children and a pop-up bar called "The Gin Tin' for parents, this a family friendly website. The quaint fishing village of Boulmer is a mile away. The beach has fine golden sand, but it's fairly quiet and doesnt have much in the way of facilities but it's this tranquility that makes it a gem in the area. 

9. Heathfield Farm Camping, Isle of Wight

  • Location: Freshwater, Isle of Wight
  • Beach: Colway Bay (approx. 0.9 miles away)
  • Details: Family run campsite that is only 1 mile from the town of Freshwater, whch has a good selection of shops and eateries. Fishing, golf, horse riding and watersports are available nearby. The island's extensive bus network is available from the entrance of the park. The beach has great views across the Solent to mainland England. This beach is popular with families, and has plenty of cafes and beach hut shops. Be sure to check the tide times. 

10. Treen Farm Campsite, Devon

  • Location: St Levan, Treen, Devon
  • Beach: Pedn Vounder and Porthcurno are both within 10 minutes walk
  • Details: Featuring an onsite shop and easy access to 2 sandy beaches, this family run campsite really delivers an idyll escape. They do not take bookings, it's "first come first served", so arrive early,  the risk is well worth it as most of the pitches have a sea view.
